PASCO, Wash. – The Martin Luther King Jr. Community Center in Pasco has officially begun its much-anticipated renovation and expansion project.
The enhancements are designed to provide technological access, foster community growth, and support essential educational and recreational programs at the center.
Construction activities began after a notice to proceed was issued on March 6, 2025. This phase is expected to be completed by October 2025, barring any unforeseen issues, the city of Pasco announced.
The $6.5 million project is funded through a combination of state, federal, and American Rescue Plan Act funds. Specifically, a $1 million capital projects appropriation from the state Legislature, $3 million in federal funding, and $2.5 million from the American Rescue Plan Act are supporting the project, the city said on its website.
Phase One of the renovation is currently underway. This phase includes the construction of new classrooms, a community room, and infrastructure improvements such as electrical, plumbing, HVAC, and fire suppression systems. Additionally, ADA-compliant restrooms and an external play area will be added.
Phase Two will focus on transforming the southwest building and game room into a library, and Phase Three will involve a total renovation of the gym along with the addition of new office spaces, a weight room, and an amphitheater.
