SEATTLE, Wash – Microsoft is proposing a plan to help consumers facing rising energy bills due to the high demand from its data centers.
The tech giant announced its intention to pay more for electricity to mitigate the effects of its facilities on the electrical grid. Microsoft said it plans to collaborate with regulators to implement this initiative.
Additionally, the company said it has committed to replenishing more water than it uses, aiming to reduce its environmental footprint.
Experts have noted that data centers, particularly those related to artificial intelligence, have been increasing demand on the nation’s electrical grid, often increasing the electrical bills of nearby residents.
