March celebrating Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. to close some roads in Yakima

YAKIMA, Wash. – Several streets in Yakima will be temporarily closed on Monday, January 19, for the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration March.

The march is scheduled to start at 12 p.m., from the intersection of Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and North 5th Avenue. It will proceed east to 8th Street, then south to the Yakima Convention Center.

Organizers will begin setting up at 11 a.m. and the event is expected to conclude by 1 p.m.

Yakima Police Department officers will manage rolling street closures along the parade route. Streets affected include Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard from North 5th Avenue to North 8th Street, as well as 8th Street from Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard to Yakima Avenue.

The event is open to the public, and organizers expect more than 400 participants.
