BENTON COUNTY, Wash. – A Benton County man will spend 140 months in prison for firing a shot at Benton County Sheriff’s deputies during a March 2024 arrest attempt, according to BCSO.

Jason Tanner, 56, had several warrants out for his arrest, including obstruction of law enforcement, reckless driving and driving with an invalid license when deputies found him at a travel trailer on March 7, 2024.

According to BCSO, Tanner fled into the trailer and refused to come out. After obtaining a search warrant, they tried to breach the door and, in response, Tanner shot through the door over their heads.

Deputies called in a SWAT team and eventually Tanner called dispatch to say he was ready to surrender and that he had put his weapons down.

BCSO reported at the time of the shooting that no one had been hurt and no deputies had fired their weapons.
