YAKIMA, Wash. – A crash in Yakima possibly caused by driving under the influence sent a man to the hospital with serious injuries on Tuesday, according to the Yakima Police Department.

YPD says at 8:24 a.m., officers were sent to the 2800 block of West Washington Avenue for reports of a two-vehicle, head-on collision where they found a 39-year-old driver unresponsive.

The man was treated at a Yakima hospital for life-threatening injuries before being brought to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle.

An investigation found that the 39-year-old allegedly veered to the left into the eastbound lanes of West Washington Avenue, hitting a pickup truck head-on. The 60-year-old driver of the pickup truck was also injured in the crash.

YPD said drug impairment is being investigated as a factor that led to the crash.

Anyone with information on the crash is asked to contact Officer Darius Williams of the Yakima Police Traffic Unit at 509-306-3814 or at darius.williams@yakimawa.gov.
