Locations to get rid of Christmas Trees

TRI-CITIES, Wash. – As the holiday season begins to wrap up, many people need to find ways to get rid of old Christmas trees. Across the region, many places offer tree disposals for free or low costs.

Here’s the list of places that accept Christmas tree recycling/disposal:

KENNEWICK/BENTON COUNTY:

Kennewick and Benton County residents can take their Christmas trees to the Waste Management transfer station at the corner of Ely Street and 27th Avenue, where they will be accepted, free, through January.

RICHLAND:

The City of Richland website says Christmas Tree Collection begins the first two weeks in January. Cut your tree in half if it is over 6′ long.

PASCO:

From December 26 through January 20, 2025, residents can drop off Christmas trees (free of ornaments and tinsel) for recycling at the Tri-Cities Cross Country Running Course in Pasco (north of Pasco Golf Land on Road 36).

Trees will be turned into wood chips free of charge and go towards running path improvements.

YAKIMA:

Christmas trees can be dropped off at Pape Machinery on 3110 Fruitvale Blvd at no cost through January 5th.

KITTITAS COUNTY:

Kittitas County Solid Waste accepts real Christmas trees without lights, ornaments and stands for free at the Ellensburg and Cle Elum Transfer Stations.

BASIN DISPOSAL (WALLA WALLA):

Basin Disposal picks up Christmas trees curbside similar to yard waste. Residents must cut Christmas trees down to 4ft lengths and bundle where it makes sense to. Remove any ornaments and tinsel.

City limit customers with included extras pickup: there is no charge for Christmas treesFor County customers, and City limit customers without total pickup: Christmas trees are charged 1 extra yard (no matter the size). Contact Basin Disposal at 509-547-2476 for the per yard rate for each area.
