KENNEWICK, Wash. – Lawrence Scott park will be getting new updates, including a protective fence around the playground this May.
First shared on Facebook by Kennewick Parks and Recreation, construction is set to begin early February.
Nick Farline, Kennewick’s Parks, Recreation and Facilities Director, says the aim of the new playset is to be all-inclusive.
“They’re going to be fully accessible, meaning that individuals with any type of mobility issues can access the playground,” said Farline.
Farline says new features like grass, art, and a surrounding fence will be implemented to the playground. He says the development will be the first of it’s kind for Kennewick.
“There’s no playground within our system here within the Tri-Cities that’s fenced in,” says Farline. “A parent or a caregiver can allow their child to come in and access this fully inclusive playground and not have the risk of a child wandering off.”
Farline explained that most of the funding for this project will come from the city’s American Rescue Plan Act. However, some taxpayer dollars may also contribute to the project.
The new playset is set to open in May of this year.
