KENNEWICK, Wash. – Blue Mountain Council Scouting America is set to host Jose Hernandez as the keynote speaker at their annual Leadership Fundraising Breakfast on March 27 at the Red Lion Hotel & Conference Center in Pasco.

Hernandez, a former migrant farmworker, was selected by NASA as an astronaut in 2004 after 11 rejections. He flew as a flight engineer on the 2009 STS-128 mission aboard the Space Shuttle Discovery.

Hernandez has received numerous accolades, including two NASA Service Awards and seven honorary doctorates.

During the event, Hernandez will discuss leadership and perseverance, themes from his autobiography, “Reaching for the Stars,” which inspired the 2023 movie “A Million Miles Away.”

The breakfast will also honor Andy Miller, former Benton County Prosecuting Attorney, with the North Star Award for his dedication to youth programs. Tickets are $100, and registration is open until March 24.

Attendees can buy their tickets online.
