KENNEWICK, Wash. – Washington State Senator Matt Boehnke (R-Kennewick) has become part of the newly launched Western Energy Caucus (WEC), a bipartisan group aiming to address energy challenges in the western United States, Sen. Boehnke said in a release.

Senator Boehnke said he was chosen for his leadership in energy innovation and clean-tech workforce development. He recently participated in an international policy exchange in Denmark, exploring clean energy practices.

“The decisions we make today will shape the future of economic growth, public safety, and environmental quality across our region,” Boehnke said.

The WEC includes lawmakers from 11 western states who will develop strategies for issues such as grid resilience and carbon management. The group aims to address rising energy demands and climate disruptions.

During the Denmark trip, Boehnke and the delegation studied advanced technologies in district heating and carbon capture. These lessons can be applied to Washington’s energy future, the senator said in his release.

Boehnke stated, “I’m committed to making sure Washington is a national leader in energy solutions.”

The WEC plans two more summits this year to develop legislation for the 2026 sessions. Boehnke said he will continue to advocate for policies benefiting Washington and the western region.
