Kennewick residents urged to adopt voluntary watering schedule amid drought report

KENNEWICK, Wash. – A week after the Washington Department of Ecology announced drought conditions across the state may worsen, the Kennewick Irrigation District (KID) is calling on residents to adopt a voluntary watering schedule.

KID emphasizes that while a mandatory schedule might be necessary later, voluntary conservation can help maintain water supply. “By following a voluntary watering schedule, we can collectively reduce our overall water usage,” a KID press release stated.

The voluntary schedule is based on the last digit of property addresses. For instance, if your address ends in 5, you can water on Sunday, Tuesday, and Thursday mornings. This staggered approach helps maintain consistent pressure and access to water.

Residents are encouraged to start this schedule as soon as water becomes available to help secure water supply for everyone.
