KENNEWICK, Wash. – On Peace Officer Memorial Day, the Kennewick Police Department (KPD) paused to honor the brave officers who sacrificed their lives serving the community.

The tribute coincides with National Police Week, highlighting the legacy of four Kennewick officers who’ve died in the line of duty since the incorporation of the city in 1904.

The fallen officers are:

Patrolman Joseph Holzhey (EOW: 11-01-1906) Marshal Michael D. Glover (EOW: 10-31-1906)Deputy Marshal Forest Perry (EOW: 11-01-1906)Chief Charles E. Copeland (EOW: 04-02-1933)

Officers Joseph Holzhey, Marshal Mike Glover and Deputy Marshal Forest Perry were killed during a gunfight at a hobo camp while attempting to arrest burglary suspects.

Chief Charles Copeland was struck by a train on March 31, 1933, while investigating a suspicious subject near the Eastside Warehouse. The train, traveling without lights, led to Chief Copeland’s death from injuries on April 2, 1933. He is buried in Riverview Heights Cemetery.

The fallen officers’ dedication and sacrifice remain etched in the hearts of the Kennewick community, said KPD in a release.
