KENNEWICK, Wash.- Kennewick Police Department Teamed up with several local agencies to arrest child rape suspect in Oregon

According to a Facebook post made by the Kennewick Police Department, KPD received a report that a 35-year-old man had raped a child.

Nonstop Local typically does not name suspects until they are formally charged.

When the suspect was confronted he left and was believed to be fleeing to Oregon.

KPD worked with the Benton County Prosecutors Office to get a nationwide extraditable warrant.

According to KPD, due to safety concerns, the victim and their family were temporarily housed somewhere else to ensure the suspect could not contact them.

Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office and Oregon State Police located the suspect in the state of Oregon. The suspect then drove off and started a car chase with Oregon State Police. Burns Police Department and Harney County Sheriff’s Office helped OSP. The chased ended in a car crash and the suspect was arrested near Hines Oregon. He was booked into jail and is awaiting extradition to Washington.

In the Facebook post, KPD extended thanks to all agencies who helped.

“From the time the incident was reported until Jose was in custody, it was within 24 hours. Teamwork across units within KPD, the Prosecutor’s Office, the FBI, the Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office, Oregon State Police, and supporting agencies all made this apprehension possible” Said KPD “We value partnerships for this very reason as they help us meet our mission of providing professional police services.”

According to KPD, this crime was not random. However, anyone who believes they may have information about the suspect or incident is encouraged to contact dispatch at (509) 628-0333
