KENNEWICK, Wash. – A middle school in Kennewick was put under ‘secure and teach’ protocol Wednesday morning for a nearby shooting threat, according to the Kennewick Police Department.
Just after 10 a.m., KPD headed to the 3800 block of West 7th Avenue for a caller that reported that her husband had allegedly threatened to kill her over FaceTime.
The man reportedly made the threat credible by showing her a gun and pointing it at his own head. He had also told his wife that he was on his way from Moses Lake to carry out the threat.
Police later found the man in the area and took him into custody on several charges including felony harassment, unlawful firearm possession and driving with a suspended license. The gun was found on the driver’s side floorboard in his car.
Out of caution, the nearby Highlands Middle School was put under ‘secure and teach’ protocol for just under 30 minutes, per Kennewick School District Communications Director Robyn Chastain.
