KENNEWICK, Wash. – The Kennewick Irrigation District has resumed work to line and widen the city’s canals to ensure a reliable water supply.
According to a release by the district, a high-density polyethylene liner is being used to create a strong, waterproof barrier, reducing water seepage by up to 90% while reducing maintenance costs, minimizing breaches and improving overall water delivery.
The main canal is being widened to increase water storage capacity, acting as a vital reservoir during dry periods, the release said.
Since 2010, the District said they’ve lined enough canals to span 25 miles, but have a long way to go with 70 miles in total to complete.
