KENNEWICK, Wash. – Firefighters in Kennewick recently held their ‘Fill the Boot‘ fundraiser at the Summer’s Hub of Kennewick.

The initiative is part of a nationwide 70-year-old tradition in collaboration with the International Association of Fire Fighters and the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA).

Trevor Winnop, a firefighter/EMT with the City of Kennewick, shared the importance of the event.

“We’re out here raising money for the Muscular Dystrophy Association. We’ve been partnering with them for a while now,” Winnop said. “All the proceeds that we raise goes directly to the foundation to help look for a cure or raise awareness.”

The funds gathered from the event will go towards MDA’s mission to enhance research, advance care, and support families affected by muscular dystrophy, ALS, and neuromuscular diseases.

According to the event’s website, firefighters have collectively raised over $700 million through ‘Fill the Boot’ and similar fundraising efforts.
