KENNEWICK, Wash. – The opening of Kennewick’s new dog park has been delayed due to unforeseen irrigation issues. The problem stems from an aging irrigation system that supports Columbia Park, which has slowed construction on the park’s planned amenities.
Kennewick Parks and Recreation Director Nick Fairline explained the current situation. “And so if you had gone down there today, you’ll see that it’s not quite finished yet. There’s still some fences that need to be put up. But that’s been all because of us just kind of slowing it down, knowing that we have to fix that, the grass there.”
Fairline, who is also a dog owner, expressed understanding for those disappointed by the delay. He emphasized the importance of ensuring the park is completed properly. “We love our dogs and that’s part of the reason why I don’t want to rush to open something that’s not, that’s not really done right and with intentionality. We’re excited about what it’s going to look like when amenities are there. It’s just going to take a little bit longer,” he said.
While no exact date has been announced, Fairline stated that the park is expected to open by early fall.
