KENNEWICK, Wash. – The Kennewick City Council is set to hold a public hearing on November 18, to discuss the proposed property tax levy for 2026.

The proposed levy would result in a 1% increase from the previous year, adding $158,002 to the city’s revenue, exclusive of new construction and state-assessed property, according to information in the city’s ordinance.

The total proposed levy, including these additions, is estimated at $16,543,731, marking an increase of $743,559 from the prior year.

For Kennewick homeowners, this would mean an increase of approximately $24.56 in property taxes for a $400,000 home, assuming an average 4.55% increase in assessed value. This equates to about $2.05 more per month.

The ordinance, if adopted, will allocate $67,000 to the Fire Pension Fund and an estimated $778,000 to the Capital Improvement Fund. The remaining funds will support the General and Street Funds.

The city plans to include a $127,000 safeguard in the levy certification to account for potential discrepancies. The final assessed valuations will be confirmed by the end of the year, but the levy request is due by November 30.

Community members are encouraged to attend the hearing to express their views on the tax levy.
