KENNEWICK, Wash. – The Kennewick City Council is considering plans to replace the current City Hall, with upcoming discussions focusing on location, budget and timing.
A presentation is scheduled for the city council’s workshop meeting on June 10 to highlight the need for a new facility due to various infrastructure issues with the current 60-year-old building on West 6th Avenue in downtown.
Several locations, including the Civic Campus, Southridge Sports Complex and the Entertainment District, are being proposed.
According to the city’s presentation report, financing the project involves a proposed budget of $35.5 million, using a Limited Sales Tax Obligation bond with an estimated annual debt service of $2.7 million.
No tax increases are anticipated for this project.
Council members will be tasked with deciding whether to proceed with locating the new City Hall on the existing Civic Campus or exploring alternative sites.
The decision will weigh the benefits of a cohesive municipal campus against the advantages of aligning with population growth, said the report.
