
KENNEWICK, Wash. – Michael Heffner has been named the new chief of the Kennewick Fire Department, beginning his role on Oct. 16. This appointment follows a comprehensive nationwide search conducted by the city.
According to the City of Kennewick Government, Heffner, who has been serving as deputy fire chief since 2021, stepped in as interim fire chief after the retirement of former Chief Chad Michael earlier this year.
City Manager Erin Erdman expressed confidence in Heffner’s capabilities, stating, “Chief Heffner distinguished himself throughout the selection process. Heffner has consistently demonstrated exceptional leadership and dedication to our fire department.”
Heffner shared his enthusiasm for the new role, saying, “I am looking forward to engaging and supporting the team members who inspire me every day by modeling true honor, selflessness and competence.”
Heffner’s promotion is seen as a testament to his leadership and deep understanding of the department’s operations. The Kennewick community looks forward to his leadership in the coming years.
