RICHLAND, Wash. – In recognition of American Heart Month this February, Kadlec and Richland Fire and Emergency Services are collaborating to promote heart health and emergency preparedness.
Through special broadcasts on KNDU Non-Stop Local news, residents will receive insights from healthcare and emergency response professionals, along with heart health advocates.
During the first week of February, viewers can tune in to KNDU Non-Stop Local every morning at 6:45 a.m. for a series of discussions on cardiac health. The lineup includes expert talks, personal stories, and preventive tips.
“We’re excited to work alongside Richland Fire and Emergency Services to bring this critical information to the community. Heart disease is a leading cause of death, but through education and training, we can empower individuals to take control of their heart health and potentially save lives in emergency situations,” said Emily Volland, Director of Communication at Kadlec
Fire Captain Joshua Smith highlighted the urgency of cardiac emergencies, saying, “We know that time is of the essence in a cardiac emergency. By learning CPR, understanding heart attack symptoms, and using tools like PulsePoint, we can increase the chances of survival for those experiencing heart-related events in our community.”
The community is encouraged to participate in local CPR classes and download the PulsePoint app to enhance emergency preparedness.
Schedule:
Monday, February 3, Dr. Marwan Qattan, an interventional cardiologist at Kadlec, will emphasize the importance of a heart-healthy lifestyle and recognizing early cardiac symptoms.
Tuesday, February 4, features a 911 dispatcher from Southeast Communications Center sharing an account of assisting a heart attack patient and the impact of timely intervention.
Wednesday, February 5, will showcase a live Hands-Only CPR Training, demonstrating this lifesaving technique and highlighting local CPR training opportunities.
Thursday, February 6, introduces PulsePoint, an app designed to alert users to nearby cardiac emergencies, with guidance on downloading it to help save lives in the community.
