Kadlec providing free breast cancer screening education at June 20 event

RICHLAND, Wash.- Kadlec’s Prevention 4 Me team is hosting an event aimed at making the process of breast cancer less intimidating by personalizing the best screening plan for you. The event will be at the Richland Public Library June 20, from 11:30a.m.-1p.m.

Kadlec Genetic Counselor, Sarah Hall, said this is a free opportunity for the community to learn about high risk breast cancer screening.

“Last year, we developed a new program called Prevention 4 Me,” said Hall. “When an individual schedules their mammogram, they’ll receive an email notification that allows us to invite them to participate in the program.”

That’s when patients will have the choice to participate in an individualized risk assessment to determine if they are eligible for increased screening, specialized education as well as genetic testing for hereditary cancer.

“Having all that information on that day is helpful,” said Hall. “Prevention 4 Me has allowed multiple departments within the healthcare system to care for patients in a very fluid way.”

With individualized treatment and risk assessment, the Prevention 4 Me team gives patients information from the beginning rather than having them go through multiple different departments.

“We care for them all the way through,” said Hall.

The event, in collaboration with the Tri-Cities Cancer Center Foundation, will have experts from the Kadlec Prevention 4 Me team to answer questions from the community regarding myths and facts about breast cancer, new detection capabilities and how to they can help personalize the best screening plan for you. The event is free to the community, and participants who RSVP ahead of time will be provided a complimentary lunch.

“You can start at the Farmer’s Market, make your way to the beautiful Richland Public Library, enjoy a complimentary lunch if you RSVP and learn more about Kadlec Prevention 4 Me,” said Hall.
