RICHLAND, Wash. – Kadlec Tri-Cities Cancer Center has upgraded its cancer treatment capabilities with the purchase of a Varian TrueBeam HyperSight Linear Accelerator.

Kadlec said in a release that this new technology combines diagnostic CT imaging with radiation treatment, enhancing precision and convenience for patients.

“This new system is faster, safer, and more convenient for patients. It allows us to monitor and treat tumors in real time,” Dr. Andrew Roehrig, a radiation oncologist at the center, said.

Kadlec said the investment, part of a $6.2 million funding by Providence, includes the removal of an outdated machine and offers precise targeting, reducing treatment time and enhancing patient comfort. It can treat multiple tumors in a single session and adjusts automatically if a patient moves, ensuring accurate treatment delivery.

Beyond cancer, the accelerator is said to treat osteoarthritis, offering an alternative for patients not finding relief from medications or injections.

“Honestly, you can’t get better care in a hundred miles. You don’t have to go out of the area for treatment,” Jessica Lukson, director of Clinical Operations, stated in the release.
