RICHLAND, Wash. – Kadlec has introduced contrast-enhanced mammography, a new method for identifying breast cancer, becoming one of the only facilities in the Pacific Northwest to offer this technology.
The innovative system combines digital and 3D mammography with contrast dye, enhancing the visibility of potentially cancerous lesions. This advancement was made possible through donor support to the Tri-Cities Cancer Center Foundation.
Lacey Perry, Chief Philanthropy Officer for the Tri-Cities Cancer Center Foundation, emphasized the impact of local donations.
“Thanks to donors, advanced tools to diagnose cancer are now available right here in the Tri-Cities, without needing to travel for exceptional care,” Perry said.
The system, costing $150,000, was funded by events like Speck Family Motors’ Drive for a Cure, which raised $50,000. Patients can now access this new technology at Kadlec with a physician’s referral.
According to Kadlec, contrast-enhanced mammography is particularly beneficial for those with dense breast tissue, offering a faster and safer alternative to MRI. This method reduces false positives, saving time and money for patients.
Community members can continue to support innovations like this by making donations through the Tri-Cities Cancer Center Foundation website.
