TRI-CITIES, Wash.- Hispanic Academic Achievers Program (HAAP) is a volunteer-based nonprofit helping Hispanic students further their education. HAAP awards scholarships to graduating high school seniors as well as awards to students 4th through 12th grade.

Kevin Moran, HAAP Scholarship Committee Chair, said the yearly awards and scholarships help motivate local kids. “It is just inspiring truly, when you have students that have been getting a certificate every since since 4th grade and its the time for the spotlight of scholarship night,” said Moran. “It really pushes students to do their best to get that 12-thousand dollar scholarship.”

HAAP has been awarding students for 36 years and has seen huge growth since then. When the program first started Moran said it recognized students in the Pasco School District, awarding 280 students per year. Now, they have expanded to all of Tri-Cities as well as surrounding areas like Connell, Benton City and Burbank.

“This past school year we recognized well over 6000 students,” said Moran.

Moran said he is proud to continue to award students in our area helping motivate the future work force.

Scholarships for the 2025-26 school year will be available later this fall on their website.
