RICHLAND, Wash. – Hanford Tank Waste Operations & Closure, LLC (H2C) has officially taken over the Integrated Tank Disposition Contract at the Hanford Site. This transition follows a four-month period of preparation, H2C announced in a release.

H2C, a collaboration between BWX Technologies, Inc., Amentum, and Fluor companies, was awarded the contract on February 29, 2024. The company said it has successfully retained over 99% of the existing workforce, which numbers approximately 2,600 people.

H2C President and Program Manager Carol Johnson expressed enthusiasm about the new role. “We are thrilled to begin work at Hanford today,” she said. Johnson also praised the outgoing contractor’s cooperative spirit and the DOE’s guidance during the transition.

The mission of H2C is to reduce environmental risks and liabilities while accelerating the tank waste disposition process. The company plans to work closely with the DOE, site regulators, and other contractors to optimize operations, the release said.
