RICHLAND, Wash. The Tri-Cities community is gearing up for our own Great Strides Walk, an event dedicated to raising awareness and support for cystic fibrosis (CF) supported by the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.
The walk is set to begin at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, following a gathering at 9:00 a.m.
Andrew’s Army, a group showing support for Andrew Holmes and other individuals with CF in the Tri-Cities, will be present at the event.
Holmes emphasized the importance of community events like this.
“Andrew’s Army is a group that come out and show their support to me, but not only to me, but to all the ‘CFers’ in the Tri-Cities,” he said.
Cystic fibrosis is a genetic disease impacting the lungs and digestive system. “…It can be hard to digest food. That’s why you need special medications,” Andrew explained.
The disease poses unique challenges, including the risk of cross infection, which requires individuals with CF to maintain a six-foot distance from each other.
Events such as the Great Strides Walk provide vital opportunities for connection within the CF community.
“It is really important just to be able to see each other, not like online, but to be able to have that connection,” Holmes stated.
The event will be at the Fingernail in Howard Amon Park in Richland.
