KENNEWICK, Wash. – Several goats were found extremely malnourished and dehydrated in an enclosed trailer on East Terril Road. The person who made the report said they’d been kept inside for days.
Police discovered the goats inside the trailer on Monday around 7:40 a.m., the Benton County Sheriff’s Office shared in a social media post. A witness alleged the goats had been kept confined since August 8.
Police found little to no water or food inside the trailer, and the goats were showing signs of dehydration.
An excessive heat advisory has been in place across the region since Sunday afternoon, expected to subside on Tuesday evening. Temperatures in the Tri-Cities reached 99 degrees Fahrenheit over the weekend.
The goats were impounded for their safety. Benton County Sheriff’s Office said they are actively investigating and working to identify the owner.
