RICHLAND, Wash. – Following this week’s announcement by Richland Police to add a Benton County sheriff’s detective to the Southeast Regional Internet Crimes Against Children (SERICAC) Task Force, the Richland City Council has approved an amendment to an interlocal agreement to include Franklin County as a member agency of the task force.
The task force, initially formed in 2017, involves the cities of Richland and Kennewick, Benton County, and the Department of Homeland Security’s Homeland Security Investigations Seattle. Its primary goal is to combat internet crimes against children, such as cyber enticement and child pornography.
By including Franklin County, the task force seeks to bolster its efforts in protecting children from online exploitation by enhancing investigative capabilities, increasing prosecutions, and raising public awareness.
The resolution to add Franklin County was adopted by the council during its March 4 meeting.
