Former Yakima County Prosecutor faces charges in court, including rape

YAKIMA, Wash. – Alvin Guzman, a former county prosecutor, appeared in court today facing serious charges including unlawful imprisonment, assault, theft, extortion and rape. The hearing took place in the Yakima County Department of Corrections Jail courtroom.

The state requested a $150,000 bail for Guzman, but Judge Shane Silverthorn considered this amount too high and set it at $50,000.

According to the probable cause affidavit, Guzman had a current or former relationship with the victim, who had no-contact orders against him. The victim reported that Guzman followed her to places like the gym and grocery store. When confronted, Guzman allegedly said he “didn’t care,” according to the victim.

The affidavit detailed an argument at Guzman’s apartment where the victim tried to leave, but Guzman allegedly blocked the door. The victim claimed she was slapped on the left side of her face and grabbed by Guzman.

The report stated Guzman threatened the victim, saying she would have to leave naked without her belongings. The victim alleged she was sexually assaulted as she prepared to leave. Neighboring video footage reportedly showed a person matching her description leaving the area naked and crying.

In court, both the state and defense agreed Guzman was not a flight risk and had abided by court rules in the past. However, the state argued for bail due to the serious nature of the allegations. Guzman’s attorney claimed the victim had previously shown up at Guzman’s residence and had been accused of assaulting him twice in the past.

The judge noted the report of Guzman allegedly threatening the victim to violate the no-contact order.

If Guzman posts the $50,000 bail, a domestic violence no-contact order with the victim will continue, and he will need to surrender any weapons he possesses.

Guzman was acquitted back in 2024 after facing four counts of assault in the fourth degree, with sexual motivations, as well as two counts indecent liberties. Guzman was working as a Deputy Prosecutor with Yakima County at the time of the previous arrest in 2022, in the sexual assault unit.

Guzman is scheduled to make his next court appearance on Tuesday, December 16, 2025, to formally hear his charges and enter a plea for his arraignment.
