Flu season has officially begun as cases begin to rise across the United States.

According to CDC data from the week ending on December 6, the amount of doctor’s visits for flu-like symptoms rose to 3.2%, above the threshold of 2.5-3% usually used to define the start of flu season.

The majority of this year’s flu cases are from a mutated strain of the virus called Subclade K.

According to experts, the strain can cause more severe illness in older adults.
