YAKIMA COUNTY, Wash. – Yakima County is recovering from recent flooding, with emergency crews actively assessing damage. The area around Playland Park in River Ridge, which includes a golf course, remains closed to the public due to flood damage. Caution tape and cinderblocks block access to parking areas.
Tony Miller, Director of Yakima Valley Emergency Management, shared that roughly 30 homes were evacuated during the flood, and a similar number of rescues were conducted.
Looking ahead, Miller expressed concerns about the forecasted rain and strong winds, which could reach 45 to 55 miles per hour.
“That’s where we have to worry about trees that the ground so saturated, trees falling and we’ve already had significant trees fall up on Highway 410,” said Miller.
The emergency operations center will remain open throughout the week and into the weekend to monitor the situation and respond as necessary.
