RICHLAND, Wash. – Firehouse Subs in Richland joined over 100 locations across 30 states to celebrate International Firefighters Day with a special “Touch the Truck” event. This initiative aimed to educate the community about the vital work firefighters do.

The Richland Fire Department’s Captain Paramedic Scott Hansen explained the significance of such events.

“Its goal is to be able to come in and interact with us both as firefighters and to be able to take a look at the trucks to perk their interest and also to educate them on, our fire service in and out of our community, both worldwide and local,” he said.

Hansen, with more than 20 years of experience in the fire department and over 30 years in emergency care, reflected on his career.

“One of my favorite memories is working with the crews that I work with. We all have that same mindset and that dedication to working with the people that we serve. And that’s really one of my most favorite things about the fire service,” he stated.

His dedication to public service runs in the family, with both his sister and son also working in the fire department. Hansen shared what being a firefighter means to him.

“The opportunity to be a part of our community, to, being, an important part, not only just in an emergency situation, but also on the basis of serving the community and events like this. And really giving back to, to those who have given to me over the years,” he said.

The department is always looking for new individuals to join their crew. For more information on joining, visit Richland Fire Department’s website.
