KENNEWICK, Wash. – Firefighters kept a fire from destroying a Kennewick home with a quick response during the early morning hours of Sunday, April 20.

According to Deputy Fire Chief Michael Heffner with the Kennewick Fire Department, firefighters in the 8100 block of West 4th Avenue attacked the flames on the upper porch of the home.

Heffner said crews prevented significant damage beyond light smoke inside the home.

No injuries were reported, and the home remains habitable.

Heffner said an improperly discarded cigarette is being investigated as the cause, though this has not been confirmed.
