BENTON COUNTY, Wash. – Sheriff’s deputies were called out to the Yakima River at Horn Rapids/Wanawish Dam today to rescue a firefighter stranded on a fire rescue boat.
According to the Benton County Sheriff’s Office (BCSO), crews from Fire Districts 2 and 4 had successfully rescued two kayakers trapped in the dam’s undercurrent.
However, during the operation, the fire rescue boat itself became stuck in the current, BCSO said in a release.
Everyone involved was safely recovered from the river, including the firefighter.
