Fire burns 14 acres in Yakima, evacuation orders dropped

Yakima Valley Emergency Management says that all evacuation orders have been lifted.

YFD Public Information Officer Jeremiah Stilley says the fire burned 14 acres and did not damage any structures or cause any injuries.

Stilley says the fire remains at 50 percent containment. Crews will be in mop up for a while and smoke will continue to be visible.

NonStop Local is working to confirm with Yakima Valley Emergency Management if the level 3 (GO NOW) evacuation is still in effect.

YFD Deputy Chief Christopher Hutsell says the fire on the east side of I-82 in Yakima is now 50 percent contained.

At around 11 p.m. on Tuesday, crews finished burning a control line and have kept the fire under control since. Hutsell says fire activity was minimal overnight.

Acreage of the fire is currently unknown.

YAKIMA, Wash. – A wildfire that started on the east side of I-82 has intensified, prompting Level 3 “Go Now” evacuation orders as winds have shifted.

Jeremiah Stilley from the Yakima Fire Department reported that the fire, which began yesterday, has become more active today.

Embers jumped the road, igniting the roof of the Gear Jammer Truck Stop, where crews are currently working to control the situation.

Evacuations are in place for both sides of the Yakima River, south of the Nob Hill overpass to the I-82 bridge by Union Gap.

Additionally, the Greenway is closed south of Nob Hill Blvd. and Hwy 24.

Residents are urged to follow evacuation orders for their safety.
