Fewer Americans apply for unemployment benefits in December

0

The number of Americans applying for unemployment benefits decreased last week, with layoffs remaining low despite a weakening labor market.

U.S. applications for jobless claims fell by 16,000, bringing the total to 199,000. The previous week, claims stood at 215,000.

Unemployment benefit filings can be distorted during holiday-shortened weeks. The shorter week may cause some individuals who have lost jobs to delay filing claims.
