KENNEWICK, Wash. – A man was severely injured after reportedly running a red light and hitting a truck early Thursday morning.
After midnight on Thursday, police were called to a major crash at S Washington St. and W 1st Ave.
According to the Kennewick Police Department, witnesses saw a speeding silver sedan run a red light and crash into a truck that was in the intersection.
On scene, officers found a 29-year-old man with serious injuries in the front passenger seat of the sedan.
It was initially believed that the driver had left the scene, however, an investigation found that the man was not wearing a seatbelt while driving and had been thrown into the passenger seat in the crash.
The driver is suspected of being under the influence of alcohol and marijuana when the crash happened. Due to the extent of his injuries, he was not booked into jail, but DUI charges have been filed.
The driver of the truck suffered minor injuries and was treated and released from the hospital.
“Let this serve as a reminder: never drive impaired and always wear your seatbelt. Your choices on the road impact more than just you. Drive safe,” the Kennewick Police Department warned.
