
KENNEWICK, Wash. – A routine traffic stop on Thursday afternoon escalated into a conflict that resulted in a driver being arrested, according to the Kennewick Police Department (KPD).
The incident took place around 2:40 p.m. at 10th Avenue and Osborne Street. A KPD Traffic Unit Motorcycle officer stopped a driver speeding at 52 mph in a 35 mph zone.
As the officer checked information on his computer, the driver exited the car and ignored multiple commands to return to his vehicle.
After repeatedly refusing to comply, the officer informed the driver that he was under arrest. A struggle ensued over the course of several minutes before the officer managed to safely take the driver into custody without suffering injuries.
The driver was taken to a hospital for medical clearance and later booked into Benton County Jail. He faces charges of obstructing a public servant and resisting arrest, along with multiple traffic infractions, according to KPD.
