RICHLAND, Wash. – The Downtown Connectivity Improvements Project, now branded as the “Downtown Loop,” continues to make strides in Richland.
During the city council’s upcoming July 15 meeting, the council will hear updates on the project’s progress and future plans to transform George Washington Way and Jadwin Avenue into one-way streets.
According to the city council agenda report, the project calls for enhancing pedestrian and cyclist safety through the addition of two-way bike facilities, wider sidewalks, improved pedestrian crossings and upgrades to street lighting and pedestrian scale lighting.
These changes are expected to shorten crossing distances and improve traffic signal coordination, creating a safer environment for all road users.
The new project branding, “Downtown Loop,” has been adopted, and a project website has been launched to facilitate engagement with property owners for right-of-way acquisition.
Upcoming steps include continuing design work, right-of-way acquisition and public engagements.
The project schedule outlines key milestones, including a public open house in October 2025 and the completion of the 100% design by December 31, 2025.
Construction is slated to begin in spring 2026, with completion anticipated by fall/winter 2027.
