Crews will close the right-hand turn lane from northbound George Washington Way into Columbia Point Drive on Monday, October 5. The turn lane is on the same side of the road as WinCo, according to a press release from the City of Richland.

A detour will direct drivers to continue north to Comstock Street and turn onto Bradley Boulevard before reconnecting with Columbia Point Drive.

The city said work will also continue on the west side of the intersection to construct a new sidewalk and retaining wall.

RICHLAND, Wash. – Construction to improve George Washington Way is set to begin on September 2.

According to the City of Richland, the intersection at George Washington Way and Aaron Drive/Columbia Point Drive is one of the busiest in the Tri-Cities.

The first phase of construction will begin with the closure of the parking lane to Benham Street.

“This intersection is a vital gateway to Richland and our region,” City Manager, Jon Amundson said. “These improvements represent years of planning and collaboration to ensure safer, more efficient travel for our community.”

The project aims to be completed by late November.
