KENNEWICK, Wash. – Drivers in Kennewick should prepare for traffic disruptions as roadwork begins at the intersection of Quinault Avenue and Columbia Center Boulevard.
The City of Kennewick reports that Columbia Center Boulevard is one of the busiest roads in the area, serving as an arterial street and listed as a T-1 Truck Freight Corridor. According to their website, around 24,000 vehicles travel the road daily.
The $1.6 million project, contracted to Apollo Inc., aims to improve traffic flow by adding a left turn lane from Quinault Avenue to Columbia Center Boulevard. Additionally, a dedicated through-lane and a right turn lane for westbound traffic on Quinault Avenue will be constructed. An extra lane on southbound Columbia Center Boulevard will lead into the Red Lion Hotel.
The project also includes the installation of new signals, ADA ramps, lighting, storm drains, curbs, and sidewalks. Benton PUD and Cascade Natural Gas will also be on-site working.
Commuters should expect delays during construction hours, which are from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. to 4:00 a.m. The city advises both pedestrians and drivers to consider alternate routes when possible.
The construction is funded by the Benton Franklin Council of Governments and the Federal Highway Administration.
