Columbia Basin College starts 4-day human trafficking awareness campaign

PASCO, Wash. – Columbia Basin College is kicking off its ‘Shine the Light on Human Trafficking’ campaign to call attention to human trafficking as part of Human Trafficking Prevention Month.

A CBC news release says 28 million people are trafficked worldwide with an estimated 14,500 to 17,500 people being trafficking in the U.S. each year.

The first event starts Tue., Jan. 28 from 11 a.m. to noon with a human chain of 108 people stretching from SWL to the HUB to represent the number of trafficked victims in the region.

The next day, a series of education exhibits will be on display from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Gjerde Center Atrium.

On Thu., Jan. 30, the Planetarium will present ‘Human Trafficking in Film’ featuring Rebecca Bender, a human trafficking authority and survivor, from 8 a.m. to 1:40 p.m.

All events are open to the public.
