PASCO, Wash. – Columbia Basin College (CBC) marked its 70th anniversary with a significant celebration on September 8.
The event included renaming the Social Sciences and World Languages Building after former CBC president Dr. Richard Cummins.
Dr. Cummins, who served as president from 2008 to 2017, was honored for his dedication to student success and increasing accessibility in higher education.
He expressed his gratitude, saying, “I am deeply honored to have my name associated with a building that reflects our mission of learning, growth and student achievement.”
In addition to the building renaming, CBC is also refurbishing its iconic legacy Hawk sculpture.
Originally designed and built by CBC welding students in 1958, the sculpture is a symbol of the college’s spirit and history. The renovated sculpture will be unveiled in fall 2026.
Dr. Rebekah Woods, current CBC president, highlighted the significance of the anniversary. “Seventy years of Columbia Basin College represents seven decades of service, progress and dedication to our community,” she said.
