KENNEWICK, Wash. – The Columbia Ability Alliance is in the midst of a 48-hour fundraising effort known as The Giving Blitz, aiming to raise significant funds for their impactful programs.
CEO Michael Novakovich emphasized the community-driven nature of the event, highlighting the involvement of local businesses in supporting the cause. “It’s helping connect families and individuals to services that we offer here. And they truly are life changing and impactful,” he said.
Since its founding in 1963, the Columbia Ability Alliance has worked to connect people with disabilities to opportunities they might not otherwise have. “We do community-based employment,” Novakovich said. “So we’ll find employment opportunities for individuals out in area businesses.”
The Giving Blitz is designed to amplify donations through community and corporate partnerships. “Through the giving blitz, when the community partners with us, they’re unlocking these corporate challenges,” Novakovich explained. “It provides scholarship opportunities or support for our employment services team so we can deliver those opportunities where people find career pursuits.”
Local businesses have partnered with the Columbia Ability Alliance to potentially bring donations up to $50,000 through matching contributions. “A gift of any size makes a meaningful difference, particularly because there’s these matching opportunities,” Novakovich noted. “So it could be somebody gives a $5 gift. It could be the gift that unlocked that $7,500 challenge. And then here we’re sitting at $15,000 because one person decided to give a gift.”
