PASCO, Wash.- Jessica Fluharty is a first grade teacher at Whittier Elementary School. She was awarded February’s Classroom Makeover from WaFd Bank.

Mrs. Fluharty was nominated by a parent who said ” My sons didn’t like to go to school before they were in her class and now they love to go to school. She is an amazing teacher.”

Mrs. Fluharty said her grandma was a teacher. She has always loved babysitting and spending time with children. “They’re just so sweet and full of life and happy,” said Mrs. Fluharty. “It makes me happy.”

Mrs. Fluharty finds building a relationship with students helps them feel more comfortable in the classroom. “I have kids of my own and I know it’s important for children to have a bond with their teacher,” said Mrs. Fluharty. “When they feel safe around you they are so happy to be at school.”

WaFd Bank believes in keeping our community strong through supporting students and teachers. Each month, WaFd and NonStop Local will choose a teacher from nominations by the community and present a check to their classroom. You can nominate a deserving teacher here.
