YAKIMA, Wash.–Yakima residents can provide their opinion on city budget priorities in as survey open until mid-April.
City Manager Vicki Baker said Yakima is facing difficult budget challenges, including inflation, and the Yakima City Council is now required to adopt balanced budgets.
“Projections show that by 2026, the city will bring in about $9 million less in tax revenue than it will cost to provide basic services, like police, fire, parks and streets,” Baker said. “The feedback that is provided through the survey will help the council determine how best to address that issue.”
Community members who complete the survey will be asked to prioritize city services and if they support tax increases to keep those services running, according to the City of Yakima.
The survey, available in both English and Spanish, can be found online.
