City of Pasco secures legal continuity with Kerr Ferguson Law through 2026

PASCO, Wash. – The Pasco City Council held a special meeting February 24 to decide whether to extend the city’s working relationship with Kerr Ferguson Law, PLLC (KFL) for legal counseling services.

The meeting was necessary amid the recent transition in city leadership and the appointment of an Interim City Manager compounded by a written notice of termination by KFL in November 2024 as provided for in the contract.

City Council approved an ordinance on February 18 to establish an in-house legal department, but the challenges of recruiting an in-house city attorney while supporting the city’s ongoing workload prompted a recommendation change.

Dave Zabell, the Interim City Manager, suggested to the city council that KFL remain under contract until September 22, 2026 to provide continuity during the recruitment and onboarding of a new City Manager.

The city council voted unanimously to approve the extension with KFL.
