PASCO, Wash. – Two major streets in Pasco will see new speed limits to help with pedestrian and driver safety. The city selecting Sylvester Street and West Court Street after careful consideration and tests.
According to a Press release from the city, the changes will be in effect Friday, Jan. 31, and will impact Sylvester street between Road 54 and 20th Avenue. On West Court Street, the adjustments will affect the stretch between Road 96 and Harris Road.
Mary Heather Ames, Pasco’s Deputy Public Works Director, says the changes come in an effort to help the community
“I mean, any change that we make is meant for the well-being of the people of Pasco. The those who live, work, drive, play, you know, are in Pasco,” she said.
Ames says Sylvester Street was identified for improvements after development of a safety project. Engineers determined crash history of the road and suggested a speed limit decrease. The speed limit will change from 35 MPH to 30 MPH.
Similarly, West Court Street underwent evaluation, leading to a recommendation for a speed limit reduction.
“We had two different engineering firms take a look and both recommended lowering the speed limit from 30 to 25 miles per hour,” Ames added.
Ames says crews will be out Friday working on the street signs, and tells drivers they can expect all signs to be updated in two weeks.
