VENEZUELA — Multiple sources indicated to CNN that the CIA is moving forward with plans to establish a permanent presence in Venezuela.
The agency is reportedly coordinating with the State Department to define the U.S. footprint in the country.
This development follows the capture of former President Nicolas Maduro.
The State Department is expected to handle diplomatic relations for the U.S. in Venezuela. However, the Trump administration is anticipated to rely on the CIA to spearhead the process due to the ongoing political transition and other factors.
