PASCO, Wash. – Jennifer Gil Zavaleta, a senior at Chiawana High School, has been named the 2026 Washington State Youth Art Month High School Level Winner. Her artwork, which highlights Washington’s culture and landscapes, earned her this prestigious recognition by the Washington Art Education Association (WAEA)
Jennifer’s piece, inspired by the theme “The World Needs Art,” features a blend of apples, grapes, pears, iconic cities, mountains and natural scenery. Her work stood out for its powerful composition and detail, Pasco School District said.
Jennifer used watercolor, colored pencils and acrylic markers to create her winning artwork. She plans to continue using her artistic talents by pursuing a career in cosmetology after graduation.
The district said programs like art and music in Pasco schools are supported through local levy funding. This support ensures students have access to tools and instruction that allow their talents to shine.
